The City of Kitchener is hosting the 8th edition of its Kitchener Chess Festival, a combination of two major 7 rounds tournaments and numerous side-events.
- When ? : August 2-5. Round 1 on Aug 2 at 6 pm, then 10 AM and 3 PM daily.
- Where ? : Kitchener City Hall
MAIN EVENTS :
CANADIAN AMATEUR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
Prizes :
- Trophies and cash prizes for all sections : 1st-$300, 2nd-$200, 3rd-$100
- Team prize : $400 (see rules)
Rules :
- Sections : Over 2000, over 1600, over 1200, rookie
- Players must play in the highest section they are eligible for
- Rookie section : under 1200, same time control, CFC rated, no CFC membership needed
- FIDE rated (if 4 or more FIDE rated players in the section)
- Registration : $80 or $100 on site
- Team prize : four players team, max 2/section, can play in the Senior Championship.
- Time control : 90 min +30s/move
- Byes : maximum of 2 half-point byes in the first six rounds.
- All equipment provided
CANADIAN SENIORS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
Prizes : Winner represents Canada at World Seniors Championship. 100% of entry fees will be returned as cash prizes.
Rules :
- Must be 60 or older in 2013
- FIDE rated
- Registration : $80 or $100 on site
- Time control : 90 min +30s/move
- Byes : maximum of 2 half-point byes in the first six rounds.
- All equipment provided
SIDE EVENTS :
- Saturday evening : blitz tournament
- Sunday morning : scholastic tournament (entry : $20). 5 quick games. Sponsored by KW Youth Chess Club
- Daily afternoon barbecue for participants
