
2019 Quebec Open
The Quebec Open was held July 20-27, 2019 at the Sandman Hotel in Longeuil, the same location as last year. It was a 9-round Swiss in five sections, each with a TC of 40/90 + G30 + 30s.
It attracted 184 competitors, including 5 GMs, 3 IMs, and 5 FMs.
The top section ended with a four-way tie for first between GMs Alexandre Le Siege, Bator Sambuev, Thomas Roussel-Roozmon (all Canada) and GM Reynaldo Vera of Cuba.
The big result was from current Canadian Women's Champion WIM Maili-Jade Ouellet, who finished 5th on TB wih 6/9. Along the way she beat GM Luis Manuel Perez (CUB) and drew with co-winner Le Siege, suffering her only loss in the last round on board 2 against co-winner Roussel-Roozmon. All that strong opposition resulted in a TPR of 2422 and earned her an incredible 132 FIDE rating points!
