Canadian Youth Chess Team at WYCC 2013

The Canadian Youth Chess team now has a blog for the 2013 World Youth Chess Championship. All chess players should definitely bookmark it! Here's the link to the blog (as well as a nice article on the team coaches) :

Team Coaches

1.

FM Andrew Peredun. This is Andrew’s third consecutive year as WYCC coach. Andrew is a strong player in his own right, and he is a full-time children’s coach in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. Andrew brings an infectious “can do” attitude to his coaching, and a “no holds barred” attacking playing style, which has made him popular and highly sought after by several of our returning players.

2.

IM Edward Porper. This is Edward’s second consecutive year as WYCC coach. Edward is a top active Canadian player, based in Edmonton. Edward was 2009 Canadian Open Chess Champion, and was a member of our Canadian Olympiad team in 2012. Edward has a particular interest in working with our elite level (2000+) players.

3.

IM Aman Hambleton. This is Aman’s first year as a WYCC coach, and we welcome him enthusiastically. Aman is based in Ottawa, and has recently relocated to Valencia, Spain, to pursue chess competition. Aman was a player at the 2007 WYCC in Turkey, so he has first-hand experience with what all of our players will be going through. Aman is now an active coach, and also a fast-rising star as a strong positional player, who has raised his FIDE rating by over 250 points in the past year to over 2500! Aman enjoys working with elite level (2000+) players, and young players.

WCM Liza Orlova. This is Liza’s first year as a WYCC coach, and we are excited to have a second “graduating” WYCC player come back as a coach. Liza is a full-time college student, and also an active coach, based in Toronto. Liza played on our WYCC teams in 5 years – 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011, so she has extensive experience with this competition. Liza was also a member of the Canadian Women’s Olympiad team in 2010 and 2012. Liza enjoys working with young players.
