Strong Canadian showing at Gibraltar !

The 2014 Tradewise Chess Festival is currently taking place in Gibraltar, featuring top GMs like Adams, Ivanchuk, Vachier-Lagrave, Tomashevsky and Kamsky. Many Canadians are playing, too, and several of them are doing great !

  • GM Eric Hansen (5/6) will be playing the 7th round on the sixth board against Richard Rapport (2691). He drew against Tomashevsky (2715), and just won against Simen Agdenstein (2627)
  • GM Kevin Spragget (3.5/6) played 4 strong GMs, splitting the point against Vallejo Pons (2707) and beating Nigel Short (2683) in a miniature.
  • IMs Porper (3.5, drew GM Short) and Hambleton (4) are also doing well. Jason Kenney, another player from Canada, stands at 3/6 with a win against israelian IM Leon Lederman.
Vassily Ivanchuk is leading the tournament with 5.5/6. Kamsky, Adams, Vachier-Lagrave and Vallejo Pons stand at five points.
Funny fact : GM Tomashevsky played three Canadians in four days, beating IM Porper and GM Spragget, as well as drawing GM Hansen.
