Last Sunday, GM Bluvshtein gave a simul in Montreal at the Complexe Desjardins. He defeated 13 opponents in less than 2 hours, giving a nice show to the numerous bypassers.
Just for Laughs festival and the 2014 World Games
The simul was organized in collaboration with the 2014 World Games, a growing component of the Just for Laughs festival. Thousands of people can play board games, video games and chess, all this under the supervision of skilled animators.
Sensibilizing people to the Alzheimer's disease and the benefits of chess
GM Bluvshtein took advantage of the situation to talk to all the media and spectators about the importance of chess as a way to prevent Alzheimer's disease. Indeed, many studies showed that chess could be used to slow down and prevent this disease. In the context of an aging population, both the FQE and the hospital/institutes would benefit from a strong cooperation. It is also in this context that Richard Bérubé, executive director of the Quebec Chess Federation, helped writing an article on the benefits of chess for the FADOQ (Association of Quebecers over 50).
Media coverage
V-Télé, Le Devoir, CBC and CTV were all present. They were able to discuss with GM Mark Bluvshtein and Bernard Labadie, president of the FQE.
