For the first time in quite a few years, a Canadian player scored an IM norm at the Canadian Open.
FM Jason Cao, one of the very few Canadian to win a World Youth Champion title, managed to get his first IM norm, even though he scored only 0.5 in his last two rounds. His great performance, probably his best so far, includes a win against GM Perez-Rodriguez and two draws against GMs Fedorowicz and Vera.
