
The beginning of September marks the return of the chess season in Quebec, as three tournaments in a row will be held on Quebec City and Montreal.
First, in Quebec City, the Labor Day Tournament makes its return on August 28-30. Organized by the Charlesbourg chess club, the event has $1500 en guaranteed prizes. All the details (in French) can be found on the Quebec Chess Federation website.
The main labor day event in Quebec, though, is still the Montreal Open, September 5-6-7 at Collège Brébeuf. More than 100 years old, the tournament organized by the Ahuntsic Chess Club is healthier than ever with a guanranteed prize fund of $5500 ! All the details in English on the tournament website.
Then, during the following week (sept 8-12) at the Quebec Citadelle, the best military players from the Atlantic will face each other in the NATO Chess Championship. It's a seven-round Swiss team tournament between players coming from at least 15 countries. More details on the NATO Chess website.
