Huge upset at Varennes Open
The Varennes Chess Championship ended on Sunday, November 9, with an expected 5/5 victory of Bator Sambuev, with runner-ups NMs Steve Bolduc and Hugues Massé. But the surprise of the tournament is definitely the young Francis Durette, 15, rated 1679, who was playing up a section and ended the tournament at 3/5, getting a forced bye in round 1 but then scoring 2/4 against an average rating of 2254, beating NMs Olivier Kenta Chiku-Ratté and Roland Chabot.
The top 4 of section B (U1800) is entirely U16 : Li Yi Lin (4.5), Hou Han Zhang, Wenxuan Zhong and Eddie Yang (4.0).
