This weekend was definitely a great weekend for many Canadian players.
IM Edward Porper, from Alberta, scored a GM norm at the Chicago Open, with an impressive 6.5/9! He finishes ahead of 18 GMs.
FM Michael Kleinman, now living in Montreal and studying at McGill University, also had a great tournament, with 4.5/9 and an IM norm.
Meanwhile, in England, IM Aman Hambleton had a stellar performance (2783), winning a tournament with 6.5/7. Unfortunately for him, 7 rounds is not enough to score a GM norm. It is good to mention that three other Canadian players participated in this event and also had very good performances.
