It's been a while since we've had an actual Best of the Web post ! Here are some links to interesting chess-related stuff that appeared online recently.. or not.
Josh Hoffert released a very interesting article on Chess Techie yesterday about the deep impact of technology on chess. he talks about how computers changed much more than how we evaluate moves. They also impacted how we evaluate players. Here it is.
As a follow-up read, I recommend this interview with Vasik Rajlich, Rybka's dad, in which he claims to have completely busted the King's Gambit by brute force. He is so confident about his results that he claims the best third move for white after 2.. exf4 is to admit they just made a mistake and play 3.Be2. According to Rajlich, this is their best move because every other move loses by force.
Totally unrelated : this article about chess and television has a couple of amazing Bobby Fischer pictures.
Slightly related reminder : Pawn Sacrifice, the Tobey Macguire Fischer-Spassky biopic filmed in Montreal, initially announced for 2014, has been bought by Bleecker Street after the Toronto International Film Festival and will be out in theaters in 2015. An official date should be released relatively soon.
