It is rare to see a player win an open tournament in Quebec without having a FIDE title. The first place is usually disputed among GMs Kovalyov and Sambuev, as well as IM Hebert.
However, this time, Olivier Kenta Chiku-Ratté won the open section of the Père-Noël tournament with a perfect score (5/5) and brings home $1000. Although he played lower-rated opponents in the first 3 rounds, he defeated IM Hebert anda FM Gachet (from France) in the last two rounds.
The second place goes to GM Sambuev (4.5/5 ; draw against FM Gachet ; $625), who probably wish he could have played Olivier in the last round.
Surprisingly, in third place is Jordan Clyde, who had not played for 3 years and was featured in last week's GOTW. Even though he lost against IM Hebert in round 2, he later on defeated NM Larochelle and finished with 4/5 and $450.
