2015 Quebec Open / AIDEF Championships

The 2015 Quebec Open, which was last year merged with the very successful 2014 Canadian Open, will this year again be merged to another tournament, the International Championships of French-speaking countries. This tournament is held every year, and Montreal's bid was chosen over bids from Morocco and Egypt and is awarded by the AIDEF (Association Internationale des Echecs Francophones).

All players from an AIDEF country (Canada and USA included), will be able to participate. Knowledge of French is not required.  Every country can also send an official representative who will be eligible to free accomodation and food (the total number of such representives is limited).

Location : Montreal, Quebec.

Venue : Hotel Delta (Downtown Montreal),
475 Avenue du Président-Kennedy, Montréal, QC H3A 1J7. Rates starting at $135/night.

Other accomodation possibility : McGill University residences (starting at $45/night).


Open tournament :

  • July 17-25 (with free day on July 20)
  • 9 rounds Swiss
  • Open section and U1600, both CFC,FIDE and FQE rated
  • $14 000 in prizes
  • Entry fee : Only $65 until May 1st

Blitz tournament :

  • July 18 at 6 PM
  • 11 rounds
  • 3 mins + 3 secs
  • $2000 in prizes
  • Open section and U1600, both FIDE and FQE rated
  • Entry fee : $15

Rapid tournament:

  • July 26
  • 7 rounds
  • 15 mins + 5 secs
  • $4000 in prizes
  • Open section and U1600, both FIDE and FQE rated
  • Entry fee : $20
