186 players showed up at the Trois-Rivières Open, which is traditionnaly the biggest weekend tournament in Canada. While this may be an impressive number for some tournaments, this is actually the worst turnout since 1993. In fact, the 2015 Varennes Open (near Montreal), will now have a bigger prize fund ($10 000 guaranteed vs $10 000 based on 210 entries for Trois-Rivières).

Even though this is the first year in a while without a GM participating, the competition will be tough in the first section with IM Hébert, FM Gachet and a few NMs. However, both Hébert and Gachet were only able to get a draw in the first round against respectively Seymour Gelet and Cédric Lépine.

The standings and pairings are available on the arbiter website.
