Kovalyov qualifies for the World Cup at the Continental Championship
The Continental Chess Championship was held in Uruguay from May 15 to 24. This championship qualifies four players for the World Cup. The two Canadian participants GM Anton Kovalyov and Hansen did well, tying for third and 12th out of 80 with respective scores of 8/11 and 7.5/11.
The second place 6-way tie was resolved by a mini live chess tournament, in which Kovalyov placed third, securing a World Cup spot.
The winner of the tournament is Argentinian GM Sandro Mareco with 8.5.
