The Millionaire Chess started today. The tournament, famous for guaranteeing a total of $1 million in prizes, will be held from October 8 to October 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada. A few Canadian players are participating, despite the high entry fees (starting at $880 USD). Canadian players in the first section are Ghandi Houshyar, GM Evgney Bareev and Raven Sturt (who studied at McGill and contributed to the Newsfeed).
There has already been some surprises in round 1, with Raven Sturt winning his first game against GM Wang Hao (2712)... by forfeit!
An interesting articleon the tournament is also available on TheGuardian.com
We wish the best of luck to all players!
