The following game was played at the the 1988 World Chess Festival in Saint John when Jeff Sarwer (Black) was 10 and his opponent, IM Igor Ivanov, was the most successful tournament player in North America.
Younger readers will not remember Jeff: he won the U10 as an 8-year-old in the first-ever WYCC in 1986, gave 40-board simuls in Ottawa on Canada Day, was a guest commentator on the Karpov-Kasparov matches for PBS and then... virtually disappeared.
