Three Tournaments on May Long Weekend
There are three tournaments in Canada over the long May weekend: the Ontario Open in Toronto, the Keres Memorial in Surrey, and the 33rd Trumpeter Classic in Grand Prairie.
2016 Ontario Open
This year's Ontario Open is being held at the Annex Chess Club in Toronto, May 21 - 23, 2016.
The "Crown" section already boasts 10 FIDE-titled players: GM Bator Sambuev; IM Nikolay Noritsyn, IM Artiom Samsonkin, IM Kaiqi Yang (CHI); FM Shiyam Thavandiran, FM Victor Plotkin, FM Michael Humphreys, FM Yuanchen Zhang, FM Michael Dougherty; and Olympiad team member WIM Qiyu Zhou.
It's not too late to register! Registrations accepted until 9:30 am Saturday May 21, on site.
Location: Annex Chess Club. 918 Bathurst St., Toronto ON M5R 3G5
Sections: Based on highest current rating (CFC or FIDE): Open; U2200; U1900; U1600*
Format: Six-round Swiss, two rounds per day at 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Time Control: 90 min + 30 sec per move from the start of the game.
Entry fee: $80 before April 1, 2016. $90 from April 1 to May 16. $100 after May 16, 2016. Some discounts available.
Prize Fund:$7500 proposed prize fund!

* Note: Players can play up a section for a fee of $20 if they are within 100 points of the section cutoff. Example: a player rated 1801 can pay an extra $20 to play in the U2200 section. (These extra fees can be paid on site.)
