35th Arnprior Open
April 30 - May 1, 2016
The 35th edition of "longest running small town tournament in Canada" took place in Arnprior on the April-May weekend. Three long rounds on Saturday was too much chess for some players, who took a strategic bye to come back fresh on Sunday. Former Canadian Senior champion Bill Doublday did this and then conceded only one draw en route to 4/5, 1/2 point ahead of Stijn De Kerpel, Ben Kellar, and current CYCC U12g Champion Svitlana Demchenko.
Next year's Arnprior open will move one week, and so not overlap with the McGill Open.
Mississauga Standard
May 7, 2016
The Mississauga Standard series had a record 89 players for their May 7 one-day four-round event. The unusual Time Control of G/50 + 10s increment means that although it is possible to squeeze in four rounds in a day, the games are rated as Standard. There were five sections: Premier, U2000, U1600, U1200 and Recreational. The Recreational section is played at G/25 +10 and does not require a CFC membership and is not CFC rated.
Premier
1st IM Razvan Preotu 4/4,
2nd Chike (Jude) Aniunoh, 3
3rd-5th: NM Richard Chen, NM Adam Cormier, NM Eugene Hua.
U2000
