
Thirty-five players -- including 20 juniors !! -- participated in the New Brunswick Open Chess Championship (June 24-26, 2016) at the Colonial Inn Hotel in Saint John.
Top seed, Sam Song won with a perfect score of 5/5. This is a tune up for Sam, who this summer will be leaving the province to participate in the Canadian Youth Championship, the Canadian Open, the World U16 Youth Olympiad (on the 5 member Canadian team), and finally the North American Youth Championship.
Tied for second with 4 were Jonathan MacDonald and John Torrie.
U1900 / Top Junior saw a 3-way tie: Kevin Bu, Nicolas Robichaud and Tony Wu.
U1500 were Harrison Liu, Grace Yu, Tiger Xu, and Phu Vo. Special book prizes were awarded to Phu, Tiger, and Allie Lin for Most Improved juniors.
