Canadian Juniors Abroad

Canadian Juniors are playing around the world and collecting norms, including what is shaping up to be Canada's first WGM!

Earlier this summer -- July 4 -- IM Razvan Preotu got his third GM Norm at the World Open in Philadelphia (http://chess.ca/newsfeed/node/856).

This week he is playing in the Calgary International, where he can aim for 2500 by taking rating points off the five GMs entered: GM Gata Kamsky (USA), GM Lazaro Bruzon (CUB), GM Kayden Troff (USA), GM Victor Mikhalevski (ISR), GM Gil Popilski (ISR).

WIM FM Qiyu Zhou in Europe

Nine days ago she won the Kecskemet July IM in Hungary, scoring 7.5/10 and a TPR of 2401. Today she tied for first at the Riblje ostrvo 3 in Novi Sad, Serbia, with 7/9 and a TPR of 2472. Those two wins should raise her FIDE rating by 120+ points, but also may (?) earn her two WGM Norms. Having already achieved a FIDE rating of 2300+, she would need only one more norm to become Canada's first WGM!
