Razvan Preotu: Grandmaster!
Razvan Preotu was awarded the Grandmaster title at the 87th FIDE Congress in Baku, Azerbaijan.
This makes the 17-year-old the youngest Grandmaster in Canada, and the second-youngest in Canadian history, after Mark Bluvshtein got the title at 16 in 2004.
Razvan scored two GM norms in 2014 and made his final norm in July at the World Open in Philadelphia. Later that month, he won the Calgary International, ahead of five GMs.
Razvan has agreed to annotate games from his summer events for an upcoming issue of Chess Canada, the CFCs electronic newsletter.
If you want to congratulation Razvan in person, he is scheduled to play in the Armenian Memorial Rapid in Toronto on Sept 25, 2016.
To celebrate, here are some photos of Razvan from summer 2007 in Ottawa to summer 2016 in Romania, where he stood on top of a different kind of mountain.
