Lefong Hua scores first IM Norm

2016 St Louis Autumn Invitational
November 17-22, 2016

Canadian FM Lefong Hua earned his first IM Norm in the 2016 Autumn Invitational at the St.Louis Chess Club, November 17-22, 2016.

Lefong started with three draws, but finished with 5/6 to tie atop the IM Norm group with US FM Konstantin Kavutskiy, each with 6.5/9 and each earning an IM Norm. This is Lefong's first IM Norm after years of tournament inactivity. He also gained an amazing 49.4 rating points -- which suggests that his students aren't the only ones learning from his lessons.

The St.Louis Invitationals are norm-generating events organized by the St.Louis Chess Club. Each is a 10-player RR, with two rounds a day for the middle three days, then one round per day for the final two rounds. Time Control is a relatively fast G/90 + 30.

In the GM Invitational, Canadian IM Aman Hambleton scored +2 =3 -3 including losses to winners Kannappan and Akshat Chandra, who earned his final GM norm.

Below you can find all of Lefong's games from St.Louis, and links to facebook photos and three V-Logs Lefong did with Aman, starting with packing for the airport, to Lefong's reaction after his last round win over Josh Colas:

"It was really dirty. It was typical Lefong dirt. I feel bad. I really feel bad."
