Best of the Web: Week 8

Dear readers,

We've decided to add another type of content to this column: international news articles. There always are exciting tournaments going on, and we thought you might be interested in handpicked articles and news website recommendations!

Here is the official website of the Geneva Chess Masters, a tournament featuring 8 strong grandmasters which just ended on a victory of Shakriyar Mamedyarov.

Our Francophone readers can find more coverage of the event on Europe Échecs, a great chess news website that has daily updated articles about all major international events.

Félix recommends this article about how to fight cheating in chess. Ever wondered how your opponent rated 400 points lower than you completely outplayed you? Hopefully he was just having a good day, but if no rules are in place, one might wonder if the player in question wasn't receiving help from a little friend named Houdini...

The FIDE Beijing Grand Prix started yesterday. Today's first round featured some interesting games, including a victory of Veselin Topalov with the black pieces over the recent winner of the Tal Memorial: Boris Gelfand.

Finally, I wanted to share the Youtube Channel of YMChessMaster, sponsored by Yateley Manor School and run by IM Andrew Martin. It features lots of interesting game analyses.

If you have any feedback or websites you would like to share, please send me an email at frederic.reynaud@mail.mcgill.ca so I can include them in next week's column.

See you next week!
