Canadian GM Pascal Charbonneau rarely plays, and usually only in team tournaments on the East Coast of the USA. But the start of the PRO Chess league -- which pits teams from around the world in online rapid matches -- gave him a chance to show what he can do against titled Canadian players: GM Bator Sambuev, GM Razvan Preotu, IM Nikolay Noritsyn and GM Thomas Roussel-Roozmon.
The PRO Chess League has 48 teams and many world-class players. For more info, see this post:
http://chess.ca/newsfeed/node/923
Canada has two teams: the Montreal ChessBrahs and the Toronto Dragons, both with a mainly Canadian line-up reinforced by foreign GMs. Two other Canadians are playing, both for teams based in the USA: GM Anton Kovalyov for the Rio Grande Ospreys and GM Pascal Charbonneau plays for the Montclair Sopranos.
On Wednesday January 11, 2017, the Toronto Dragons played the Montclair Sopranos. Charbonneau played, and so had 4 games against his fellow Canadians. The diagram shows four critical positions from each of those games. The side at the bottom is to move. Solutions can be found in the annotated games below.
