Today, Louie Jiang brings us the dynamic Semi-Slav played by IM Edward Porper as Black against GM Mekhitarian in the 9th round at Gibraltar. A small error on Black's thirteenth move led to an inferior position in which White was able to play a better position with very little risk.

Life of a King (Movie)

Chessbase published a review of Life of a King, a movie on the life of Eugene Brown, who started playing chess during his 18-year incarceration and later founded a chess club in Washington DC. 
The movie is now available on DVD.

This week's GOTW comes from the recently concluded Gibraltar Chess Festival in which a number of Canadians competed successfully. GM Eric Hansen was Canada's top scorer at 7.0/10 to tie for 10th place in what was one of his best tournaments to date.
