The Chess Olympiad has a storied history, dating back to 1927, when it was first held in London, England. Since that time, it has grown to become a biennial event held under the auspices of the World Chess Federation (FIDE). In 2010, the 39th Chess Olympiad saw 149 teams from 141 countries converge in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia to do battle over the sixty-four squares. Canada was there and made itself known with Mark Bluvshtein's defeat of then-World #2 Veselin Topalov, which was reminiscient of Pascal Charbonneau's victory over then-World #2 Vishy Anand at the same event in 2006.  Do not discount the "impossible" at the 40th Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey this fall.
