Reminder: Gatineau Open 2016 next weekend

Gatineau is a beautiful city in western Quebec. Right across Ottawa, it is located on the northern bank of the Ottawa River and only requires a 5 min car ride from its city center.

This week, I present to you a game played at the Carnaval Winter Open played in Quebec City. This game features a master playing White against an IM playing Black. In this game, at certain points, Black does not play the objectively best move, and instead tries to keep winning chances.

GM Bator Sambuev is 4/4 in terms of Tour du Quebec wins this season. After sweeping the 2015 leg of the season, Sambuev wins the 50th Winter Carnival tournament, held in the timeless capital of Quebec.

New chess club in Montreal!

"Le Club élite" (the elite club) is a new chess club based in Montreal which focuses on the development of competitive chess players with an FQE rating of over 1600. Membership is $20 per year. (free for masters) Free trial period until March 2016.

In the 5th round of the recently concluded BC Open, Tanraj Sohal played an exemplary attacking game with the White pieces. After a few inaccuracies from his opponent in the opening, he obtained a dangerous initiative on the kingside and never put a foot wrong. A very impressive display!
