This week's Canadian Tactic comes from round 2 of the RA Chess Club Championship. White has a lead in development and more aggressively posted Bishops, while Black's position could hardly look more passive. But it's Black to move, and if White overlooks a tactic he'll lose a piece in two moves.

It is not easy for a University to be repeat champions for two or three years in a row. For that to happen, it needs many stars to align. First, it needs a strong core group of players similar in year and age.

This year's tournament will be worth following. UofT managed to put together a much stronger team than usual, whereas McGill has a much weaker team than in the past three years. Will Toronto end McGill's winning streak?

Here is another game from the recent Hart House Holiday tournament. Black played a pretty accurate game and showed how patience can be extremely important in some positions.

FM Michael Song secured an IM norm before even playing the last round at the NA Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. He unfortunately lost his last round to finish with 5.5/9. At 4.5/9 were young masters FM Olivier-Kenta Chiku Ratté and Hong Rui Zhu from Quebec.
