The CFC Regular Chess Post ( Week of September 7 - 13/12 )

The CFC Regular Chess Post – Sept. 9/12 – Canadian Olympiad Results.

Both of the Canadian teams ended up with finishes largely consistent with their ratings. The Open team ( Sambuev, Gerzhoy, Noritsyn, Hansen and Porper ) was ranked 53rd and finished 52nd. The Women’s team ( Khoudgarian, Peng, Botez, Lacau-Rodean and Orlova ) was ranked 59th and finished 64th.

Of course the big news was Eric Hansen's GM norm, which coupled with his result in the earlier Isthmia tournament in Greece makes him a GM-elect. Congratulations Eric!

WCM Jackie Peng, who played 2nd board for the Women's Team, finished 6/9 and with this result, will be awarded the WFM title! Congratulations Jackie!

The CFC Regular Chess Post – Sept. 7/12 – IM Eric Hansen – On Verge of GM!

In round 10 ( second last round ) against Sweden today, Friday, Sept. 7, IM Eric Hansen of Alberta, playing 4th board for Canada at the Chess Olympiad, needs to play against an opponent rated 2490 or higher to achieve the GM title! Sweden's lowest rated player is 2503. So as long as Eric and his opponent show up and they make the first move, he will become Canada’s 5th active GM who plays for Canada ( behind Spraggett, Sambuev, Charbonneau, & Roussel-Roozmon ).
