Canadian Open News - July 18, 2011

The final round of the Canadian Open came and went with a bit of a wimper, as most of the top boards drew their games.

Thus, the three way tie between Arencibia, Benjamin, and Bojkov remained and all won $4200. There is no tie-break for the Canadian Open, so the 3 become Co-Champions.

Thirteen players finished =4th. Canadians in this group were GM Bluvshtein, IM's Gerzhoy, Noritsyn, Samsonkin, Krnan, Cummings, and FM's Cheng and Thavandiran (who defeated GM Sambuev in the final round). Bindi Cheng received an IM norm for his performance (his 3rd).

It is widely anticipated that Victoria's bid for the Canadian Open 2012 will be accepted by the end of the month.
