Similar to the Men's side, the women's team is all but finalized. The selection process is 4 players by rating + a wild card. The wild card has yet to be selected.

The 42nd Chess Olymiad will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 1 september to 14 septermber (moved from original schedule of late Sept.). The CFC will send one team of 5 to Baku.

The 14th edition of the Chess Festival in Gibraltar has begun today and will conclude on Feb. 4th. It has 5 sections: Masters (Open; 10 round FIDE Swiss), Challengers A & B (U2250; 5 round FIDE Swiss each), and Amateurs A & B (U1900; 5 round FIDE Swiss Each).

FM Michael Song secured an IM norm before even playing the last round at the NA Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. He unfortunately lost his last round to finish with 5.5/9. At 4.5/9 were young masters FM Olivier-Kenta Chiku Ratté and Hong Rui Zhu from Quebec.

Eric hansen finished with 7/9 in the London FIDE open (held at the same time as the London Chess Classic) and tied for the second place. The tournament winner was GM Benjamin Bok, who defeated Eric in round 8 and GM Lenderman in round 9.

GM Eric Hansen is the 9th highest rated player (out of 245). He is not the only Canadian player, since Daniel Abrahams and McGill Alumni David Zhou (who could surprise some players, since he has no FIDE rating) also participate.
