While it is still early to make any predictions, some Canadians are doing quite well at the World Youth Chess Championships. Nameer Issani and Qiyu Zhou both have 4/5, while 6 other Canadians (William Graif, Razvan Preotu, Richard Chen, Nicholas Vettese, Eugene Hua and Aiden Zhou) have 3.5/5.

Millionaire Chess Starts Today!

The Millionaire Chess started today. The tournament, famous for guaranteeing a total of $1 million in prizes, will be held from October 8 to October 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada. A few Canadian players are participating, despite the high entry fees (starting at $880 USD).

Kovalyov Eliminated

GM Anton Kovalyov drew his second match game against Fabiano Caruana, losing the match 0.5 - 1.5. 

Kovalyov Advances Again!

Canadian GM Anton Kovalyov won his second round match at the World Cup in Baku, defeating former Argentine teammate GM Sandro Mareco: 1.5 - 0.5.

GM Bareev transfers to Canada!

GM Bareev's transfer is now official. He is now the highest rated player in the country, ahead of GM Kovalyov.

GM Bareev, who recently moved to Toronto, intends to focus on teaching, but has already played in some tournaments in Canada, including the 2015 FIDE Kitchener Masters.

Ilyumzhinov to run for FIFA Presidency?

Andrei Filatov, FIDE vice-president and president of the Russian Chess Federation, has proposed Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the current FIDE president, to run for FIFA presidency.

The current FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, has already stated that he would resign from his position following a corruption scandal.

Invitations for Canadian girls : 2016 Susan Polgar Foundation Girls’ Invitational

GM Susan Polgar and Webster University extended invitations for Canadians girls starting next year to participate in “The 13th Annual Susan Polgar Foundation Girls’ Invitational” scheduled to take place at Webster University, Saint Louis, Missouri (date will be announced later).
