U16 Adam Adriaanse's hilarious, but lucky passport adventure (WYCC)

Follow the WYCC and Durban Open

Sixteen young Canadians are currently competing in the World Youth Chess Championship in Durban, South Africa, until Sept 29. In the meanwhile, three of the team coaches (IM Hambleton, IM Noritsyn, Peredun) are playing in the Durban Open, a strong GM tournament. Noritsyn is currently leading the tournament with 4/4.

NATO Chess Championship report

The 2014 NATO Chess Championship (military only) was held in Quebec City, at the Citadelle. It ended on Sept 12. Players from 13 countries participated in the tournament, including 7 masters.

Canadian Representatives at upcoming FIDE events

The Women's World Championship is coming up really soon (October 11-31), although the tournament site has not been announced yet.

Canadian GM Eric Hansen, currently rated 2593 moved to Europe last year in order to play chess full time.

Canadians at the 2014 World Open

A few Canadian are doing well. GM Kovalyov has 4.5/6 (after a loss against GM Smirin) and FM Razvan Preotu has an impressive 3/5 against 5 GMs for a total of 4/6.

CFC vote for FIDE President in the Globe and Mail

The Globe and Mail recently published a detailed story about the Chess Federation of Canada's vote for the 2014 FIDE election. The CFC is supporting Kirsan Iliyumzhinov, presented in the article as "Poutine's choice". It is a pretty interesting read as it shows how outsiders might see the CFC's choice.
