There are a number of Canadians having good tournaments at the World Open in Virginia, but especially impressive is Razvan Preotu who is on track for an IM norm with his 4/6 against very strong opposition. Watch as he takes down a player just outside of the top 100 in the world.
A few Canadian are doing well. GM Kovalyov has 4.5/6 (after a loss against GM Smirin) and FM Razvan Preotu has an impressive 3/5 against 5 GMs for a total of 4/6.
GM Elshan Moradiabadi is coming to Ottawa to give a simul at the RA Chess Club on July 17, 2014.
The Globe and Mail recently published a detailed story about the Chess Federation of Canada's vote for the 2014 FIDE election. The CFC is supporting Kirsan Iliyumzhinov, presented in the article as "Poutine's choice". It is a pretty interesting read as it shows how outsiders might see the CFC's choice.
This week's game is from the Edmonton International, one of the few annual norm tournaments in Canada (along with the Quebec Open and the Calgary International). This game between the young star GM Wesley So and a promising Canadian IM, Raja Panjwani will definitely entertain you.
