Huge upset at Varennes Open

The Varennes Chess Championship ended on Sunday, November 9, with an expected 5/5 victory of Bator Sambuev, with runner-ups NMs Steve Bolduc and Hugues Massé.

Funding for new Canadian norm tournaments

The CFC has announced it is going to receive funding from the FIDE (following Ilyumzhinov's election) for a series of eight norm tournaments in the next four years. The purpose of these tournaments is to provide norm opportunities to Canadian players. The CFC is currently looking for potentially interested organizers.

GM Norm for Razvan Preotu at the Spice Cup

The SPICE Cup took place in St-Louis, October 21-26.  FM Razvan Preotu tied for ninth with two GMs and two IMs, earning a GM norm by scoring 5.5/9, including 3/6 against GMs. GM Illya Nyzhnik, from Webster U, won the tournament.

Varennes Chess Championship

The Varennes Chess Championship is back, organized by the Varennes Chess Club. It is the highest prize fund weekend tournament in the Montreal region.

Quebec Amateur Championship Results- Just how good is Zong Yang Yu ?

The Quebec Amateur Championship concluded Monday, Oct 12, with a stunning 2500+ performance by U16 master Zong Yang Yu, who only obtained his national master title two months ago. He finishes first with Bator Sambuev at 5.5/7 (Both undefeated), half a point ahead of NM Steve Bolduc and FM Valerian Hirschberg.
