The 2013 North American Youth Chess Championship is taking place in Toronto, August 14-18. It is a high-stake 9 round swiss tournament because of the 26 FIDE titles awarded to the winners.

The World Cup will be taking place in Tromsø, Norway, from Aug 10 to Sept 3. The two games of the first round will start on Sunday, Aug 11, 9PM (EST) and Monday, Aug 12, 9PM (EST).

8th Kitchener Chess Festival - Report

The Canadian Amateur and Senior Chess Championships took place in Kitchener from August 2 to August 5. It was a 7-round swiss tournament, divided in five sections : seniors open, amateur open, U2000, U1600 and U1200. They were fighting for a ~$3000 prize pool ($300-$200-$100 prizes for each amateur section).

WFM Jackie Peng wins $52K Webster University Scholarship

WFM Jackie Peng just played at the 10th Annual Susan Polgar Foundation Girls' Invitational Chess Championship from July 21 to 25 in St Louis.

Jackie finished with 4.5/6 and received a $52K Webster University Scholarship!

Quebec Open : Final Report

The favorite, GM Lazaro Bruzon (7/9, $4000), from Cuba, won the Invitational Section, the strongest ever in a Quebec Open (+2350 average FIDE rating).

Fundraiser at CFS Leitrim

Congratulations to Master-Corporal Philippe Leveillée who won the NATO Chess Fundraiser held at the Canadian Forces Station Leitrim 24 July 2013. This fundraiser was to help support his trip to the 24th NATO Chess Championship in Poland.
