Round 1.1 of the 2017 Women's World Championship was played today in Tehran.
Canadian Champion Qiyu Zhou was responsible for one of the upsets: holding 2014 runner-up Natalia Pogonina to a draw with Black. Game with notes...

In round 2 of the PRO Chess League, the Montreal ChessBrahs defeated the Toronto Dragons 9-7. Almost half of Toronto's points came from one player: Razvan Preotu. The Seventeen-year-old Canadian GM scored 3/4 against the ChessBrah team, good for a 2685 TPR. Here are his games.

On Wednesday January 11, 2017, the Toronto Dragons played the Montclair Sopranos in the PRO Chess League. GM Pascal Charbonneau played, 4 games against his fellow Canadians. The diagram shows four critical positions from each of those games. The side at the bottom is to move.
