The Grand Pacific Open is taking place this weekend at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Victoria, setting a new attendance record with a total of 123 players.

In order to obtain the lowest room rates possible, the FQE made what we thought was an audacious but risky decision. We booked 1000 nights at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth and guaranteed the revenues for the hotel.

This tournament, open to the active military and civilian personnel of the Canadian Forces, is the national qualifier for the 25th NATO Chess CHhampionship, which will be helf in Quebec City next September.
