This week's GOTW features an extremely tactical Sicilian defense. White gave no doubt about his intention to attack Black's king, but unfortunately Black never found the tactical resources that could have allowed him to not only defend, but seize the initiative.

You'll have to forgive my bias in choosing the following game, but Raven Sturt, McGill's first board at this year's Canadian University Championships won an excellent second-round game with the black pieces handing Joey Qin his only loss of the tournament. You don't want to miss this one.

I often talked about how difficult it can be, even for older and stronger players, to formulate a plan in a complicated position. It seems like it is common for most players to simply play the most logical moves one after the other, without really having a long-term plan. This game is a good example of that.

This week's GOTW features a nice win by Canada's newest FM, Michael Song, in a rare opening (1.b3). White (Michael Song) played with great accuracy throughout the game and left his opponent very little opportunity.
