This week's GOTW was played at the Père-Noël Open in Montreal. Both players are promising juniors from Montreal, and White decided to play a king's gambit. While the game was mostly one-sided, both players missed important tactics that could have changed the outcome of the game.

White played very accurately to defend against a dangerous attack, but that's not enough to win without playing the rest of the game perfectly.

It has a been a few years since Ontario had an active grandmaster. However, GM Evgeny Bareev has apparently recently moved in Toronto, according to Vlad Dobrich, organizer of the Toronto Saturday rapid tournaments. Born in 1966, GM Bareev reached his peak in 2003, at which point he was fourth in the world rankings.
After 9 of the 11 rounds at the Tbilisi Grand Prix, Evgeny Tomashevsky has forged himself a 1.5 points priority on runner-up Jakovenko. With 5 wins and 4 draws for 7 poins, Tomashevsky is the only player to have more than three wins.

The Amateur Chess Association of WNY announces the 2015 Can-Am International Chess Tournament
Nicholas Vettese recently obtained his third and final national master norm at the 2015 Hart House Reading Week tournament. He scored 2.5/5 (not playing in the sixth round), with a performance of 2351, including a win against FM Dougherty.
IM Razvan Preotu, the 16th highest rated U16 player in the World will participate at the Cappelle la Grande Championship in France and the Reykjavik Open (Iceland), thanks to sponsorship from CMA and the CFC ($1000 each).
